Vintage

2019

A vintage of exceptional quality, though not an easy one for winegrowers.

Bud break (the appearance of the first leaves) occurred very early, around March 30th. We successfully protected the vines from frost periods on April 13th and May 5th by lighting heaters in the vineyards. Flowering in mid-June was rapid and homogeneous.

We then experienced a significant heatwave between June 23rd and July 23rd, with peaks above 30°C. Thanks to deep root systems, our vines resisted this stress remarkably well, allowing véraison and ripening to develop under favorable conditions.

Manual harvesting took place on September 26th and 27th under radiant sunshine.

Vineyard

Terroir: Sandy-loam soil with the presence of “crasse de fer” (iron oxide) in the subsoil.

Cultivation: No pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers are used. Green cover crops (cereals and legumes) are sown between the vine rows in autumn. In addition, to promote biodiversity, melliferous plants attractive to bees are planted in spring. All canopy management work is carried out manually.

Yield: 50 hectoliters/hectare.

Average Vine Age: 35–40 years.

Harvest: Manual harvesting with hand selection before vatting.

Winemaking

The grapes are carefully hand-selected before being placed into vats in our fully renovated winery.

Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts (the natural yeasts present on the grapes), without excessive extraction and under controlled temperatures (25°–26°C).

The aromas develop progressively, while the structure evolves gently and is refined during the post-fermentation maceration period.

Malolactic fermentation follows naturally.

The aging process lasts 18 months, with 30% aged in new fine-grain oak barrels featuring medium or light toast.

Tasting

An intense ruby-red color. The nose reveals fruity notes combined with toasted aromas.

The attack is smooth and direct. Fine and dense tannins contribute to a beautiful volume on the palate. This is a balanced, elegant wine full of freshness and finesse.

Pairing Suggestions

Pairs beautifully with delicate dishes that are not overly spiced, from aperitifs to chocolate desserts, including cooked-curd cheeses.
